You Know You Live In Texas...

...When you get a notice from the school that reads, "Some small rattlesnakes have been discovered on campus at different times. We believe the snakes are coming out of hiding because of the drought. The district's pest control team took immediate action..."

The notice gave steps on what to do if the kids see a rattlesnake or even get bitten!

Hayley's Happy Day

On Sunday Hayley officially turned nine. What is it about the 'almost double digit' age that does something to kids? Hayley's poise, maturity and general sassiness never ceases to amaze me.

Hayley is in my many ways my clone, we call her 'mini-me' because although she looks more like the Smelker side (actually the Bachelder side) of the family, her interests and personality reflect me. Except for waking up in the morning - Hayley is NOT a morning person!

I never imagined my life could be so complete, and Hayley is one of the reasons I am so happy!

God bless you sweet Hayley, Dad and I love you!

Back to School 2006

As is our custom, we took a photo of the kids as they prepared for their first day of school. Although we bought them new clothes, they really can't wear a lot of them right now, today's high was 101 before the heat index was added! Carson was most upset that he couldn't wear his new two piece 'Cars' outfit.

Today was a great success, and all the kids say they like their teachers, we'll see whether they still say that in a couple of weeks. Hayley got Teagan's teacher from last year, so I know she will have a great year with her!

The lennon side of the family

This blog is about our family - specifically the life and times of the Smelker kids, but I wanted to take a moment to introduce my nephew. My brother Peter and his wife Jenny, have an 18 month old son named Michael, born on February 22nd, the day after Teagan (so much for not having another event in February! My parents now have 5 events and we have 9!)

I have not met Michael yet, but he is so cute! I showed a picture of him to Warrick the other day and he said, "Man, that's me!" And apart from the fact that Michael is a tow head, I can certainly see the resemblance. He also has scrapes on him because he is fearless like Warrick!

I really hope Peter and Jenny can make it over here sometime soon.

Happy Birthday to...ME

Yeppers - almost 40 now - this is my last year in the 30's and I have to say I am excited about it. I know some people look at turning 39 as something to panic about, and seeing the big 4-0 looming, almost get depressed, but I am not one of them. If I look at my life I have to say I am really happy with what I have achieved and where I am emotionally, and spiritually (physically I could still stand to lose a couple more pounds, but that's a whole 'nother story!)

Today we went to Six Flags as a family, hung out in the wave pool, did the Tornado and the Texas Tumble, waded around the Lazy River and in essence just enjoyed some family time. Then it was home for me to clean up so I could go and enjoy the gift Terry had got for me. A two hour trip to a spa! Massage, manicure and pedicure - I walked out feeling refreshed and really relaxed.

I made a special shrimp dinner tonight (thanks to Betty Crocker online!) and I have to say that on a scale of 1 to 10, my day hovers right around a 10.
