Formal Evening
Last night, our senior pastor, Beverley, had a birthday celebration for her 50th birthday. The party was held downtown at a really cool hotel called La Mansion del Rio, a 4 star hotel right off the Riverwalk:
It was a formal evening and so I bought a beaded, sequined gown and Terry dressed in his best suit. Warrick took this photo - not the best and I am hoping there are photos from the actual evening that we can get. There were plenty of photographers there last night!
The food was excellent (Filet Mignon), the company great and the music reminiscent of the 1950's - we listened to jazz all evening and then the dance floor was opened at the end of the evening.
The best part was getting out all night sans kids in an adults-only evening; dressed to the nines and with people we know and love. I can't wait for the next event!

'Summer time and the livin's easy...'
This summer has been one of sun, fun and rollercoasters! This year for the first time all of our kids are big enough to do at least half of the rollercoasters found at Fiesta Texas - a Mexican themed amusement park 15 minutes from the house. The biggest hit by far for the kids has been 'Tornado' a water ride that has you spinning in the middle of a tornado and then spitting you out at the end. Hayley also tried, and liked 'Scream' the straight up in the air for however many feet and then back down again! Carson has been a little timid, and refuses to do much more than the 'Lazy River' and the children's play area, but has a blast. We bought season passes and they were one of the best investments this summer. We can go for a few hours or all day if we choose. Last weekend we went on Sunday evening just to see the fireworks. On Saturday we went just for the waterpark. As summer draws to a close (well as much as it will here in San Antonio) we will spend more time on the rollercoasters and as the season winds down in October, we will peruse the stores and get the last minute close out bargains.
Have I mentioned before that I LOVE San Antonio??

New Addition to the house
We have a new addition to the family – Teagan has wanted to get a hamster for a while now. We had one a few years back, Elephant was its name. It died in 2001 and since then she has asked every few months for one. Well, a girl friend of mine had a garage sale a couple of weeks ago and wanted to sell her hamster stuff. It didn’t sell, so she offered it to me – she thought we would keep Monty’s mouse in it until I explained we don’t keep the mouse, the mouse comes into the house specifically to be consumed. We thought about it for a day or so, and contacted her saying we would get the stuff from her and surprise the kids with a hamster. We got the hamster this afternoon – the kids are so excited. We will keep it in the game room, so it won’t keep anyone awake with the wheel! We had to name the darn thing, so we put names in a hat and I chose. Here are the nominations:
Fluffy (Terry)
Chewbacca (me – I think it is the BEST name!)
Cindy (Teagan)
Clever (Hayley)
Hamster Boy (Garrick – superheroes on the brain!)
Junior (Carson – not sure where he got the idea from)
The name selected was Junior, so Junior, reluctantly, it is. It is a little golden hamster, with white underbelly, and a dark sport on the head. The pet store said for us not to handle it for 2 or 3 days until it gets settled into its cage. I hope it lives a good long while – actually Elephant lived about 3 years, so about average for a hamster I think.
Although this is not a photo of our hamster, this is a pretty good likeness (although really, one hamster looks like another in my opinion!)

Nicaragua - Here He Comes!
Tomorrow afternoon Warrick will board a plane for his first Central American trip. He has flown to Europe several times, flown all over the USA, and also flown in Africa, but this is his first 'south of the border' trip! Apparently the team he is with is working with the local pastors to minister to kids - there are over 15,000 street kids in Manauga (the capital) alone. On the last full day the team will have the opportunity to climb a volcano, something Warrick is looking forward to.
They won't be roughing it though! Not like when I would go into the African interior and then live in the mud huts - these pictures are of the place Warrick will be staying:

I Knew It Was A Good Name!
Four of our five kids have distinctive English/British names - Warrick (although not spelt traditionally) is British - there is an Earl of Warwick in Warwick Castle in Warwickshire. Teagan is named after an Irish queen of the same name, Hayley is obviously English, and Garrick is an old English name meaning to defend. The only non-English name is Carson, and actually it is Scandanavian.
Anyway, my parents wrote me the following email this morning:
When we got to North Shields, which is where the Newcastle Ferry port is located we mooched round looking for somewhere to have lunch and drove past the pub in the attached photo.
Thought you might like to see it.
Here is what they saw:
